 Beginning
by the Atlantic Coast, discover archaeological sites and beautiful
lanscapes where abound wildlife; make an excursion to Copan
(Honduras), before visiting the "Altiplano" with its colonial
towns, traditional markets and natural wonders like Atitlan
Lake, ending in the "Peten" region and the maravillous site
of tikal.
Day
1 (Monday) - ... / Guatemala City - Quirigua - Rio Dulce
From your hotel or La Aurora Guatemala-City airport, pick-up
the rental car and travel to Quirigua (enormous stone carvings)
and Rio Dulce.
Day
2 (tuesday) - Rio Dulce - Livingston - Rio Dulce - Rio Hondo
Make a boatdrive excursion on Rio Izabal Lake until Livingston
populated by descendants of slaves, visit the Fort of San
Felipe. Then depart for Rio Hondo.
Day
3 (Wednesday) - Rio Hondo - Copan (Honduras) - Guatemala-City
Take the way to Honduras frontier (local formalities) and
visit the wonderful archaeolocical zone of Copan. In the afternoon,
go back to Guatemala-City.
 Day
4 (Thursday) - Guatemala-City - Chichicastenango - Quetzaltenango
Early departure to Chichicastenango (3h00) to visit the extraordinary
Indian market (Thursday and Sunday), the Santo Tomas church,
then continue to Quetzaltenango (01h30).
Day
5 (Friday) - Quetzaltenango - San Francisco El Alto - Lake
Atitlan
City-tour of colonial centre of Quetzaltenango before going
to San Francisco El Alto to attend the famous animal open-air
market (Friday only) and continuation to Lake Atitlan.
Day
6 (Saturday) - Lake Atitlan - Santiago Atitlan - Antigua
Make a boatride excursion on Atitlan Lake to visit Indian
villages of Santiago Atitlan and Santiago Palopo. In the afternoon,
drive to Antigua.
Day
7 (Sunday) - Antigua - Guatemala airport / Flores
Visit colonial town Antigua before driving to Guatemala-City
airport to drop off the car and take your flight to Flores.
Welcome to pick-up local rental car to go to your hotel at
Flores Island or lakeside Peten-Itza.
 Day
8 (Monday) - Flores - Tikal - Flores / ...
Excursion to the magnificient site of Tikal, then drop off
the car at Flores airport for flight to... Cancun (if you
want to spend some days on the Caribbean coast), Belize-city
for transfer to Ambergris Caye if you desire to discover the
second largest coral reef in the world, or Guatemala-City
for your flight back home.
