SELFDRIVE -The Mexican Mayas 8 days / 7 nights

A complete program to realice this circuit of 8 Days / 7 nights, visiting most important north and south archaeological zones of Yucatan peninsula, making an incursion as far as Palenque, one of the most important Maya towns built in the tropical jungle, the colonial towns of Izamal, Merida and Campeche, the beautiful nature of Agua Azul Falls and the Bacalar lagoon, ending on the Mexican caribbean coast, in Playa Del Carmen, Akumal, Puerto Aventuras, known for its quiet beaches, or Cancun.

Day 1 ...CANCUN or Playa del Carmen (in the afternoon...) Pick-up of the rented car at the airport of Cancun, downtown or the hotel zone or Playa del Carmen,

Day 2 - Cancun (or Playa) - Chichen-Itza - Merida (348 kms) Early departure through the highway direction Chichen-Itza and visit the archaeological site. In the afternoon, going to Merida, possible stops at Hoctun, a Mayan cemetery and the colonial city of Izamal (convent of the XVI c.). ight in Merida.

Day 3 - Merida - Uxmal - Kabah - Campeche (251 kms) Visit the "white town" and its market. On the road to Campeche, possibility of visiting the archaeological sites of Uxmal and Kabah. Night in Campeche.

Day 4 - Campeche - Edzna - Gulf Coast -Palenque (392 kms) Starting in the morning with the visit of the fortress town Campeche. On the road to Palenque, possibility to visit the site of Edzna by making a U-turn or to prolongate a part of the Gulf Coast. 1st. Night in Palenque.

Day 5 - Palenque - Agua Azul - Palenque (80 kms) Take advantage of the morning to visit the magnificent site of Palenque; possibility to reach the waterfalls of Agua Azul - to recommend - (1:15 h/driving), going to San Cristobal de las Casas. In the afternoon, return to Palenque. 2nd. Night in Palenque.

Day 6 - Palenque (Calakmul) - Becan - Chicanná (461 kms) approximately 3:30h. driving via Escarcega to arrive Conhuas - a not easily driven road (120 kms, roundtrip about 2:30h) - to reach the magnificent site of Calakmul, not well known yet. Arriving at Chicanná, possibility to visit the site of Becan. Night in X'Puhil or Chicanná.

Day 7 - Chicanná - Becan - X'puhil - Kohunlich - Chetumal (140 Kms) Possibility to visit the surrounding sites of Chicanná, Becan and X'puhil , continuing the one of Kohunlich (the mask pyramid) on the road to Chetumal. Night in Chetumal.

Day 8 - Chetumal - Tulum - Playa del Carmen or Cancun (378 Kms)/ … Make a visit to the new impressive Mayan world museum, stop at the Lagoon of Bacalar before discovering the site of Tulum. In the afternoon continue to Cancun airport or reserved beach hotel in Cancun or Playa Del Carmen and drop off the car.
