MEXICO
The
Mexican Maya World encompasses the states of Campeche, Chiapas,
Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucatán, each possessing its own
charm, abundant natural and cultural attractions.
A
trip throught the Mexican Maya World might take in the ancient
cities of Palenque (Chiapas); Comalcalco (Tabasco); Edzná
(Campeche); Uxmal and mighty Chichén-Itzá (Yucatán); and Tulum
(Quintana Roo), among other sites.
Nature
lovers can take a boat trip through the magnificient El Sumidero
Canyon in Chiapas, explore the Coconá Caves in Tabasco or
trek along jungle paths in Campeche. In the Yucatán, they
can watch flamingos at Rio Lagartos national park or swim
in a cenote (sinkhole). In Quintana Roo, the endless white
beach of Cancun, Isla Mujeres and the stretch of coastline
known as the Riviera Maya are paradise for sun worshippers
and nearby Cozumel is one of the top diving destinations in
the world.
The
legacy of the Mexican Maya World also includes gracious cities
and convents built by the Spaniards as part of their drive
to colonize the area.
Nowadays, visitors can take a carriage ride through the streets
of Mérida, Yucatán; explore the forts built to protect Campeche
from pirate attacks; or enter an ornate church in San Cristóbal
de las Casas, Chiapas.
The
rural communities of the Maya dot the landscape.
Culture
buffs can meet Mayan weavers in Chiapas, or while in the Yucatán,
they can attend a bustling market or join a pilgrimage.
THE
MEXICAN CARIBBEAN COAST
CANCUN:
'The
Pearl of the Caribbean Sea" has been recognised as one of
the most important touristic places in the world (and also
as one of 5 top most visited destinations world-wide).
Mother Nature has created a piece of land between Nichupte
lagoon and the Caribbean Sea; man has transformed it into
what it is now: the most important hotel chains are present
here, the best restaurants,
bars and discotheques; a place where you can find all kinds
of water sports, and above of all, point to start one day
excursions to the heart of the Mayan civilisation (Chichén-Itzá,
Uxmal, Tulum, Coba, among the most important), also an important
site to observe the wonders of nature of this region ("Cenotes",
biological reserves, eco-archeological parks). Cancun is a
picture that can't be missing in your photo album!
Not
long ago PLAYA DEL CARMEN was a small village of fishermen;
today transformed into a small touristic destination which
doesn't stop growing. Keeping its typical Mexican characteristics
of the Caribbean coast, Playa del Carmen has become one of
the favourite sites preferred by European tourists.
RIVIERA
MAYA Is the new name given to the Mexican Caribbean coast
which goes from Playa Del Carmen to Tulum. It's a succession
of small towns and big touristic complexes that expand day
by day.
